Deep Tissue Massage in Surfers Paradise
Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm pressure to work into the deeper layers of muscle where tension builds up. It is the treatment to choose when a lighter massage doesn't quite reach the tightness.
What to expect
- Your therapist uses oil and works slowly, with firm pressure from thumbs, knuckles and forearms.
- The session can cover the whole body or focus on the areas you name, such as shoulders, neck or lower back.
- Some spots may feel tender while they are worked on. Say so and the pressure is adjusted.
- Drink some water afterwards; a little muscle soreness the next day is normal.
Good for
- Knotted shoulders and neck from desk work or phones
- Tight legs and back after training, running or surfing
- People who find relaxation massage too light
Questions
Is deep tissue the same as remedial massage?
No. Remedial massage involves assessment and treatment of a specific injury. It is not available at BKK at the moment. Deep tissue massage is firm work for general muscle tension.
Will it be sore?
You may feel some tenderness during the massage and mild soreness the next day, much like after exercise. It should never feel sharp or painful.
Can you focus on one area?
Yes. Tell your therapist where you want the most time spent when you arrive.
How long should I book?
60 minutes is enough for the back, neck and shoulders plus some full-body work. Book 90 minutes for a thorough full-body session.
